If you want to know what a new era of paganism would look like, then look around you. Do you like what you see? Or did you start an anonymous Twitter account to express your discontent with what you see when you look around you. The masses today have regressed into paganism, as you have many reports from all across western history - isolated communities start to trend back towards cooky superstitions and witchcraft and cargo cults, when left without proper oversight from people who know better. This is a constant across church history. The global village never meant that we are all one big happy small family, it means that everyone becomes a rural provincial and isolated from higher culture, from power, and from authority. It means everyone is as isolated as the provincial rube in 1200, with no access to information, education (in virtue), or understanding of the workings of anything outside his immediate sorroundings. What we are all living through has been a gradual return to paganism for 200 years, ever accelerating with never and more isolating "information technology". Did radio make people more informed, better equipped to make useful decisions in their lives? Did TV? Did the Internet? Did we 3.0? When did the buck stop? What is the qualitative difference between what social media has done (turned everyone into narcissistic schizophrenics), and tv? Did these technologies actually improve the common level of debate and understanding, did any of these technologies uplift us and raise us up to a higher level of discourse? You like a post every other week about "look how standards have fallen, you had to know Greek and Latin to go to uni 100 years ago", or "this is how articulate random people writing diaries were 400 years ago". People don't believe in any Christian God, they belive in "energies" and "vibes" and "science" and "the beauty of the cosmos", new age pseudo Buddhist sofism, cargo cult bullshit, people think that "if I really really care really much and I FEEL a certain way, that is important and will and should influence thd physical world", people believe they can change politics by "chimping out" on social media If you start from the assumption that "Christianity is fake", then you will conclude that it is fake. If you look at the numbers and say "well even though it's fake, it seems like it's the only thing that works", you have two options. You think you have these options: lie to yourself and live a lie, pretend to believe in something you don't, for some external benefit - be a hypocrite - or, use your big superior brain which is much smarter than anyone who has ever lived, to look at religion and try to deduce the secret sauce that makes it work "by accident", and make a new, better Christianity, that fixes all the embarrassing problems like having to belive in Jesus. unfortunately a) you are not the first person who has had this idea and history is littered with people attempting to do this, since the days of early Christianity. In the new testament itself, it's kind of even core to the whole thing about pride and thinking you are better than God, which let's not get into it here but that's just a logic error even plato knew this. And b) what you actually have is not those two choices, because those are essentially the same thing, you're just trying to imagine what it would be like of you were doing the same thing conciously or as a P-zombie. You're just doing the pov meme. The actual real, meaningful choice is: do you do that, or do you acknowledge that that might be a decent reason to try to take it seriously. "I could never believe but it's good enough for the dummies and the poor, but I'm too smart for it to work on me, sadly" - this is just your own psychology justifying itself, and has nothing to do with philosophy, fertility rates, sexuality, politics, policy proposals, or even culture or discourse.
