yesterday my dad passed away. generally, this would be something hard to process but for the past 6 or 7 years, me and my family have been expecting this. hes been very ill to the point where he's had to stay at the hosptial for months on end as he couldnt support himself when he was at home, and when he did eventually move home, we had caretakers at our house 24/7 but he would end up back at the hospital every other week. during the second half of my life, me and my father ended up drifting apart, due to many reasons. i thought that this lack of connection would make it easier for me to cope as my relationship with him had deteriorated, however when the time came, it still hit me and is still gutting me. ive had to take care of everyone in my life before myself, first my grandpa, then my dad, and now i am responsible for taking care of my grandma and my younger cousin. ive never had the opportunity to even think about taking care of myself, always others. i am lucky that i have a supportive family behind me that recognizes that i need a break, and im truly grateful for the friends that have also supported me and listened to my rants about everything thats been happening. i never knew that no matter how much you prepare or how little you may have of a relationship, grief will always hit you hard. tell your loved ones you love them because you never know how much time you will have with them.
