MARTIRES APPEARS UNAWARE OF PANGILINAN-CUNETA PRENUP Former Ombudsman Samuel Martires on Monday night accused Sen. Kiko Pangilinan of violating the law on the disclosure of wealth — seemingly unaware that the senator and his wife, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, had signed a prenuptial agreement. In an interview on Bilyonaryo News Channel's On Point, Martires claimed Pangilinan failed to include Cuneta's financial records in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN). "Why didn't he let his wife, Sharon Cuneta, state [her] assets and liabilities in his SALN? Sinasama yung income ng asawa sa kanilang declaration of assets and liabilities. Bakit siya hindi? Nakatingin ba siya sa ibang direksyon?" Martires said, citing the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees (Republic Act No. 6713). However, Cuneta had previously confirmed that she and Pangilinan signed a prenuptial agreement before their 1996 wedding — meaning their assets and liabilities remain separate. Earlier reports from PEP.ph in 2007 also recounted that Pangilinan himself insisted on having a prenuptial agreement. Martires' remarks came after Pangilinan urged Ombudsman Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla to release Martires' own SALNs, questioning why the former Ombudsman restricted public access to them. "Had he said only na dapat ilabas 'yung SALN ko, period, OK sa akin. The problem is he went further 'para magkaalaman,'" Martires said, maintaining that he had nothing to hide and was open to releasing his SALNs with personal details redacted.
