I'm a South Korean journalist based in New York City. This is a thread about what's happening in South Korea right now after the president declared emergency martial law.

guys martial law isn’t lifted in South Korea, but the votes were 190/300 in favor of nullifying it. the president, by law, has to lift it and it’s not lifted until he says it is. if he doesn’t, though, it is unlawful and he can be arrested or impeached. keep crossing your fingers, I’m sure it will be lifted soon.

South Korea was able to restore democracy and undo the martial law order because people reacted quickly and decisively. That’s how you protect democracy.

This is not about North Korea. Now South Korea is going back under military dictatorship like 1987 because he’s scared of being impeached
