We’re seeing a lot of excitement around the @Square bitcoin payments announcement. Just to clarify what's actually rolling out and when: On Monday, 100% of newly onboarded, eligible U.S. sellers were enabled by default (when using payments). For existing sellers, we’re starting with a smaller (though very sizable) cohort and expanding gradually. While our recent TOS update gives us flexibility to scale over time, we’re intentionally rolling this out in phases to ensure a smooth experience for our sellers. As I said earlier in the week, we only have one shot to do this right and we are doing it very intentionally 🫡

@BitcoinatBlock @HodlMcGoo @milessuter @Square @CashApp Very important that you figure this out. An up to date map is critical to the success of this roll out. Here’s an easy solution: check if the address is already on yelp or Google Maps. If so, and it accepts bitcoin, put it on the Bitcoin map!

@BitcoinatBlock @HodlMcGoo @milessuter @Square @CashApp Why not automatically add them to the map? Why do you require the opt in? Would make the map a lot more useful. Can’t imagine merchants will mind the free advertising.

Nic Carter wants you to panic about quantum computing killing Bitcoin. What he doesn’t lead with: his firm led a $20M round in Project Eleven — a company that only profits if you believe the quantum sky is falling. QC is worth watching. But the guy selling the cure has every reason to exaggerate the disease.

It’s crazy that everything I dreamed Bitcoin would become is becoming a reality. I’m able to easily spend it at millions of locations now. All of this incredible news, yet Bitcoin still can’t find its way out of a brutal bear market 😢

With all due respect to Jack and the team at Square, this type of announcement would have gone crazy back in 2021. It's unfortunate that our industry was slow to ship when we had retail's ear. The people now want stablecoins as payment.
