@mkazin @souljagoyteller Another critique of this very great book is that it largely presumes a secular Jewish immigration to the United States and demonstrates little interest in the life of Jewish religious communities in the U.S., reflecting Irving’s argument with HIS father, perhaps.

@souljagoyteller a great book but it doesn't cover the history of German Jews, like my great grandfather, who came to the US before the Civil War, or Sephardic Jews in any period
