@_otieno_ @MuriithiMwema Major benefits of a monetary union are the reduction in transaction costs, economies of international reserves,elimination of exchange rate risk and region-wide price harmonization.The eurozone,the most successful monetary union,is a perfect example of this.

@MuriithiMwema Having a single currency won't be effective,as the dollar would still be recognised as the standard currency for trade outside the jumuiya. What good does it do to have a currency that would still have to be changed into $ while doing trade with other nations outside the jumuiya

I tend to disagree,,,no.1,,it won't be fun,,,no.2,,no state, especially capitalists like Kenya,,,will accept to devalue it's currency to be equal to others.
The only minute advantage is this might solve the balance of payments for all the states.
