Hi everyone!!! After a long hiatus, I'm back on Twitter. I'll now focus mainly on professional interests here. Expect anthropology and cognitive science (especially of attention), as well as some design (human-centered, service, and otherwise) and applied ethnographic methods...

Inevitably, there will still be the occasional opinion or RT about Venezuela, as well as other miscellaneous interesting/fun stuff...

@LinkedInHelp is there a problem with your sign up page? I've been trying to create an account and keep getting a "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again." message. Have tried different browsers and computers.

@JuanLRodrigue10 I’ve been keeping off twitter as much as possible for quite a while now, and I guess I’ve lost some of my cultural fluency :)

@JuanLRodrigue10 Fair enough. I was thinking/writing with the anthropologist hat on because it was you who tweeted it. I wouldn’t have made that argument with other audiences. But I get your point about Twitter.

@JuanLRodrigue10 I’m sure you have seen that too and hopefully can see how the phrase “it’s different” should not be thrown away with the proverbial bath water.

@JuanLRodrigue10 Yes yes, I know that’s not what you mean. I agree with you 100% that Venezuelans too often say/imply that racism in Venezuela is “less bad” and that has to stop. My point is about the also too common application of US-centric logics and models of race/racism to Venezuelan society

@JuanLRodrigue10 Wholesale transplantation of models of how racism (or any other social phenomenon) looks and operates from, say, the US context to Venezuela is not good intellectual practice and it’s potentially harmful for the cause of justice. I’d even say that it’s intellectual colonialism.

@JuanLRodrigue10 Without meaning to undermine your point here, may I defend the phrase ‘is different’? Racism is different, not just in Venezuela, but in every context in which it exists. More importantly, understanding those differences is crucial if we want to tackle the problem effectively.

One would think that endorsing a Health Ministry who has systematically withheld epidemiological information and doesn't even share general mortality figures would be something WHO's director would think twice before doing. Hard to take WHO seriously with this guy heading it.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus@DrTedros

My thanks to Carlos Alvarado Gonzalez, 🇻🇪 Health Minister, for sharing #Venezuela's staged approach for fighting #COVID19: before and after cases, comprehensive measures to identify and control these, and educating and informing the public.

@JuanLRodrigue10 @jguaido Juan, I’ve been having a really hard time keeping up with this whole debacle (on top of everything else!). Why do say this? What has come out about Guaidó’s involvement? (Not doubting you, just interested in looking at the stuff)
