Waterloo Community School District Names AJ Cassidy as Head Volleyball Coach at Waterloo West High School
ㅤ
Pending approval by the Waterloo Community School District Board of Education, AJ Cassidy has been named the next head volleyball coach at Waterloo West High School. A veteran educator and coach within the district, Cassidy steps into the lead role after years of dedicated service to the Wahawk athletic programs.
ㅤ
Cassidy is a familiar face at West High, having served as an English teacher since 2012. His coaching tenure with the volleyball program began in 2020 as an assistant coach. Additionally, he contributed nearly a decade of leadership to the West High girls' basketball program as an assistant coach from 2016 to 2025.
ㅤ
West High Athletic Director Tom Ulses expressed strong confidence in the appointment, citing Cassidy’s experience and deep ties to the school community.
ㅤ
"We are excited for Coach Cassidy to step into this new role," said Ulses. "He is committed to Waterloo and our student-athletes. Having successfully stepped into several interim head coach positions in the past, we are confident that he is fully prepared and ready for this position."
ㅤ
Coach Cassidy is eager to build upon the foundation already established within the program and hit the ground running for the upcoming season.
ㅤ
"I’m excited for the opportunity to continue working with the Wahawk Volleyball program as head coach," said Cassidy. "We have a strong group of dedicated student-athletes who are already putting in work this offseason. Their energy and dedication is contagious, and we plan to find as many opportunities as possible to help them continue their development."
ㅤ
The district looks forward to the energy and leadership Cassidy will bring to the court as he transitions into this new chapter of his coaching career.
