It is a sad day when the opportunity to fix one of the state’s most broken components of the health care system as well as life-saving resources to our citizens hinges on a work requirement that has proven to be ineffective at best and damaging at worst.

"Valuing the discussions this session" is the hollowest of victories. At a time when Mississippi’s health system ranks lowest in the nation across 25 measures including health care access, quality, utilization, and health outcomes, "discussions" are simply not enough…

Today, on his 95th birthday, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This dynamic and visionary leader brought about transformative change through his impactful and monumental contributions to our society.

We celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington, one of the most consequential events that shaped the civil rights movement, and through its recognition renew and reassert our continued battles against racism, injustices, civil rights abuses, and inequities.

Today I had the honor of speaking with SGA presidents from colleges and universities across the state of Mississippi. The one thing I tried to impress upon them is the greatness of Mississippi, and the need for their talent to remain here if at all possible.

On Jan. 30th, the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus Issues and Policy Committee hosted a hearing where Dr. Loretta Jackson-Williams, MD, PhD, and others discussed possible solutions for increasing the number of African American medical students and nurses.
