New gov budget proposal for Portugal 🇵🇹 Impact for Tech Workers: if you’re 35 or less OR you’re a high-skilled expat OR are coming back after living abroad, the deal is sweet: Super low taxes and a new special benefit of 0 taxes when buying a house. For everyone else, there are a few smaller improvements. The new tax-free performance Bonus situation is relevant for founders to study. Details 1. slightly lower tax rate for all income levels. It’s an improvement of ~20% over the planned reduction for 2024 which already included a Tax Cut (€1.3B=>€1.5B). 2. if you’re <=35, max IRS tax is 15%. 3. Performance bonus are tax free up to 6% of annual income. The fine print will be important but this seems like a bureaucratic way of allowing businesses to increase salaries at no cost. 4. Profit tax to be reduced from 21% to x, so that over 3 years it goes down to 15%. 5. First house for people <=35 pays no purchase tax (IMT and imposto de selo). Idk if there will be a cap on purchase price. 6. Some sort of public guarantee by state for first houses. This exists to lower interest rate by taking out the requirement to have 10% capital or whatever the banks have atm. 7. Raise min salary from 820€ to x so that over 4 years it hits 1000€ per month. (I believe this is on a 14x per annum basis beware). 8. universal Pre-school access. No details. (9. Assumed: a) keeping 20% flat tax for high value tech workers for 10 years if you’re coming back to Portugal after 5 years of absence or are an expat. B) keeping 50% of tax free income for 5 years if you were in Portugal, moved out for 3 years, and came back. No mentions mean these stay.) This HAS NOT been voted into law, but there’s some chance it goes through. My thoughts: I would prefer less exceptions and subterfuges and simpler cuts across the board. But the bureaucracy must live on. The glass is half full.

I knew there was a symbiotic relationship between plants in an ecosystem but I never thought it would be so direct. I thought it was through much more indirect processes in the soil etc. Thanks!
