@BriannaWu I hear a different memory. It was the death of 1000 cuts of people who really should have known better legitimizing and amplifying every single unflattering story, regardless as to the veracity, and Bernie running well past the point he could have won.

Reminder: Ignoring all the warning signs, and believing what we wanted because it was comforting is why Hillary lost in 2016.

@BLTruesdell @cbouzy I’m not gonna talk about people who have already passed away. I don’t get the fixation on Pelosi. She stepped down from leadership and is phasing out her career. And it was after being an incredibly productive House Speaker who helped deliver a lot of important wins.

@cbouzy dude, im just really worried now. i was 100% confident on a biden win before yesterday. i just wished they had really hyped up Kamala Harris for the last 4 years, b/c that is what people are really voting for (i'd be thrilled for that outcome, but im not sure others will).

@marisolxoxo2 @magi_jay Like, I get the meltdowns to some extent, but so much of it seems like it’s just chasing clout and an excuse to disregard the will of Black voters without openly admitting to it.

I watched the debate w/ my partner, who is not a partisan Dem like I am, but votes for Dems. He didn't black out in a PTSD-induced-cloud like I did. I asked him his impression of the debate. He said, "Trump is insane. He wants to start a race war."

@What46HasDone I thought I remembered the DNC specifically going to court to affirm that they are under no obligation to honor primary votes whatsoever. It was a very important principle to them back when Bernie was running.

@Lynn_Henning @JamesSurowiecki The nominee has to do a lot of work to unite the party well ahead of the general election. Dismissing the will of the base completely while attempting to install an untested candidate is not how to do that. You’re just parroting conventional wisdom and calling it insight.

@mlhershb @JamesSurowiecki Get serious. You're not "splintering" anything. You're nominating a person, among an appealing cast, who will bring some overdue oxygen to a suffocating party and nation, and who will coast in November. But the hardheadedness has to yield. And that, we learn yet today, is tough.

I get why so many ppl say the only possible replacement for Biden is Harris. But this underscores the weirdness of our system. Harris wasn't picked as VP by Dem voters. She was selected by Biden. So it's odd that she's automatically considered to be his presumptive successor.

@VABVOX Like, I got the frustration and the panic to some extent, but the narrative is always geared to benefit incompetent and sleazy Republicans who don’t believe in a multi ethnic liberal democracy.

It's frankly astonishing that we have no less than 8 op-ed pieces calling for Biden to drop out after a bad debate,but we had zero after any one of Trump's convictions. It's not just MAGAs deep in the cult of Trump and maybe the country should own this failure of responsibility.

@Lynn_Henning @JamesSurowiecki Yeah, because being a spoiler and splintering the party ahead of an important election totally makes sense. None of those people are tested nationally, and still would’ve had a lot of work to do to win over the base.

@mlhershb @JamesSurowiecki Voters didn't choose anyone this year. There were no serious primary contenders because Biden chose to run and Buttigieg, Whitmer, Shapiro, Newsome, and all the people who definitely would win in November deferred to the incumbent.
