@nazimadakli @_okedata @fchollet I am a bit uncomfortable contributing content to this platform, but would like to know if anyone in this particular conversation considers heuristics or plausible reasoning (in the sense of George Polya) to be part of what any current system does? I would love to see an example.

In my dissertation I argue any unsupervised learning deep neural network is intelligent because they solve problems on their own. We do not solve the specific problems they will work on for them before programming them. Once agents begin to solve problems on their own, potentially massive civilizations can emerge from scratch. They do not need to be "conscious", "creative", or capable of "reasoning" in the sense we use these words for humans for massive civilizations to emerge from them. Meanwhile, classical algorithms are unintelligent because we solve the specific problems they will work on before coding algorithms. So machines have been intelligent since AlphaZero. It's just they are intelligent on one task and that's not impressive. Intelligence on one or many tasks is the difference between narrow and general intelligence (AGI).

In the context of AI, "reasoning" has got to be one of the most misused and misunderstood term ever, right up with "intelligence".

Last week, I went to New College in Florida -- ground zero for what the @GOP are trying to do to education in this country. Take a moment to watch this. Books are banned. Speech is limited. Faculty are scared. Students are bullied. This is just a small dose of what's to come.
