@ssleeebb the implication that obtaining an effective refund on the expense of the hotel - where the advertising is about closeness to nature, there are no tvs, etc. - would provide me with peace of mind, when the whole point is to be in nature, which itself is uncontrollable

All of that said, I completely agree on the overall point you're making re: prediction markets! Weather insurance is a specific form of highly orthogonalized insurance product -- and prediction markets at least in principle offer a way to extend that idea to lots of other micro events people might want to insure against but not otherwise have access to an orthogonalized instrument for. (h/t @HermanNarula who first introduced me to this idea)

@skominers There are clear differences, of course, but travel insurance is obviously a highly regulated product. This, though…? I truly don’t know much about the regulatory regime of the space but am trying to learn more.

@skominers I wasn’t aware of this as an insurance option before! I found it interesting that (1) it was located where I would typically see trip insurance advertised and (2) in a way, it’s sort of making a bet on the weather - up to the cost of the hotel. But maybe I’m thinking ab it wrong!
