I’ll never forget hearing that “honestly you sound muffled” moment on a recording—then tracing it back through the audio chain. Mic → interface/recorder → gain staging → room treatment.

Here’s my 3-step checklist: Focus/contrast: make the subject pop (no gray-on-gray). 3–5 word promise: one clear outcome, not a paragraph. Face/expression or visual metaphor: show the emotion, or the “before → after” idea.

“Same content. Same upload. One thumbnail got clicks—one didn’t.” I fix thumbnails like a friend fixes your outfit: most of the time the problem isn’t the video—it’s the first 1 second.
