The ruling on the "debt brake" by the German constitutional court has, among other things, sparked a renewed discussion about the political implications of austerity - a topic I began working on many years ago. What was a niche area has evolved into a thriving field... 1/n

One may want to add that Kalbhenn/Stracca find weak or null effects on public opinion. They view their results to be inconsistent with the view that austerity has a negative effect on public opinion and atttitudes toward national and European institutions.
