Delighted to see this paper that we've been working on for so long out as a preprint! arxiv.org/abs/2410.08290 We present new results on the stellar mass function and the stellar-to-halo mass relationship in the largest redshift range to date 0.2<z<12 in 0.5 deg2 of COSMOS-Web

For instance, Shuntov shows how the galaxies' dark matter halos initially outpace galaxy assembly. However, as accretion of gas and dark matter begins to slow down after some 1.5–2 billion years, halo growth stagnates while accumulated gas reservoirs keep star formation going.

These have important implications on our galaxy formation models, and the most massive galaxies at z>5 warrant further investigation and confirmation from spectroscopy to derive definitive constrains on the co-evolution between galaxies and halos.

This Einstein ring was also independently studied in a paper by @DokkumPieter and collaborators a week earlier.

This is a great effort from the COSMOS team + collaborators led by Wilfried Mercier at @LAM_Marseille, myself at @DAWNCopenhagen, Raphael Gavazzi, James Nightingale, Rafael Arango, Olivier Ilbert + more, in a work carried out in the COSMOS-Web survey (PIs: @astrocaits @Jeyhan)

We recently reported the discovery and an in-depth characterization of the most distant and absolutely gorgeous Einstein ring that we found in the COSMOS-Web survey @cosmosastro. We call this the COSMOS-Web ring. We find that it is composed of a lens at z=2 and a source at z~5

Writing a JWST Cycle 2 proposal from scratch in three days was one hell of a roller coaster ride. But what made the difference between us giving up and pushing through was the overwhelming support from wonderful Co-Is following our call for help.
