I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Jamil Akbar Bugti this morning. He always reminded me so much of my father the resemblance in his face and beard was striking and many people used to say the same. Even the similarity in how they both left us, due to heart attacks, makes this loss feel very personal to me. He was truly a son of the soil, a man who will always be remembered with respect and honor. His legacy will live on in history and in the hearts of those who admired him. He will be deeply missed. My year in solitary confinement has not broken me. My peaceful fight for Baloch rights in Pakistan goes on I’ve reflected on why our peaceful protests are treated as a threat, when nonviolent political engagement is the very foundation of a democratic society. Resistance is often the path to justice, and such movements should not be suppressed. When a state turns its power against human rights groups and peaceful political actors, it reveals not strength, but weakness. Our peaceful resistance has allowed the message to reach far and wide.
