@typesfast Ships on arctic routes will be much smaller than the 20k+ TEU on Asia-EU routes. Per TEU the CO2 will not go down. Environmental impact of shipping in vulnerable area is substantial and reinforces climate change. Many shipping lines have stated they will not sail arctic routes.

A few companies have asked us to pledge not to ship cargo on arctic trade lanes. But this can cut 30-50% off transit time and carbon emissions. We should refuse this demand right? What am I missing?

@BM_Visser Zorgelijk beeld, leidt tot sluiten fabrieken in NL. Nuance: Extra heffing in NL is in 2025 €21,14 per ton. Vorig jaar was dat 0. Als ETS prijs toeneemt kan dat in ‘26 ook weer 0 zijn.

Interesting question. It’s hard to answer when you really think about it. Each of these so-called “Ally” countries are ruled by anti-democratic regimes which have turned their backs on the ideals of free society (with decades of largely unconditional support from the legacy US uniparty establishment) & overtly seek to demote their citizens to the status of serfs. They scorn us for daring to reassert national independence & individual liberty & call America an “adversary” for suggesting the people of the Allied countries should be free of their surveillance, censorship, & permission. Turkey is a little different as Erdogan is not aligned with the globalism of the other NATO member states, but his vision of restoring the Ottoman caliphate simply offers a different version of autocracy & empire. The good news is that growing numbers of citizens across the NATO countries are finding the courage necessary to fight for their freedom & future; we can & should help them — not by financial aid or military force (both of which would imperil our own liberty & sovereignty) but via our example, ideals, technology, courage in opening new frontiers, & (in time) mass production. As in an air emergency, doing all of that requires us to put our own oxygen masks on first before helping others around us. That’s the essence of America First.
