Here's why I think YouTube search sucks: it causes you to spend more time searching and randomly discover content you otherwise would not. If the searches were precise, you wouldn't do that. It's a perverse incentive for them. It's bad enough that we have AI that confidently guesses wrong, but if Google Search gave you poor results to maximize your time on the site, I doubt that'd work. If I search YouTube for "Simpsons Burns sees Homer outside his limo, rolls down the window, and basically says 'Get back to work!'", it comes up with nothing useful. If I ask ChatGPT, it says it's in the episode "Homer the Smithers" from S07E17. So, pretty clearly, it's well within current tech. So why isn't YouTube search precise and useful?
