Amazon is officially in on x402. They just published a full blog article entitled: "x402 and Agentic Commerce: Redefining Autonomous Payments in Financial Services" Let that land for a second 👇 Not a startup. Not a crypto-native team. AWS, the infrastructure backbone of the global internet, just published full reference architectures for integrating x402 into enterprise financial services infrastructure. For those still not in the know, x402 turns HTTP's dormant 402 "Payment Required" status code into a programmable payment rail for AI agents. An agent requests a resource, receives a payment spec, pays via USDC on-chain, and resubmits with a receipt. Sub-2-second settlement at roughly $0.0001 per transaction. No subscriptions, no API keys, no vendor contracts. Agents pay per use, every transaction recorded on-chain by design. AWS didn't just write about it. They shipped three reference implementations mapping directly onto their managed agent stack, cited McKinsey's projection of $3 to $5 trillion in agentic commerce by 2030 and published it under their Financial Services Industries vertical. AWS is effectively telling every FSI institution on the planet: this is how your agents will pay for things. This matters for Mode because x402 is part of the open stack we are building on.
