Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison delivers a sales pitch for his company's new AI-monitored body cameras, which live stream footage back to headquarters and cannot be turned off. "Citizens will be on their best behaviour, because we're constantly recording and reporting everything that's going on." "These are the kind of next generation systems we can build using AI."

Ian Fleming's original James Bond novels haven't aged well. For example, Moonraker, published 70 years ago in April 1955, features a villain who's a super-rich industrialist & rocket-maker seeking to cause chaos because he's a secret Nazi. Such a silly idea! 😆

(See below for the English version.) This controversy is not simply a social media uproar; I view it as an incident that highlights the discrepancy between Finland's self-image as a "human rights-advanced country" and the reality experienced daily by Asian residents. First of all, I do not wish to loudly condemn discrimination like a human rights activist. Rather, I would say that the feelings we Japanese, who were not directly mocked, felt more like "deep disappointment at the unfairness" than "discrimination." Finland has long upheld high ethical standards and a strong awareness of human rights. This stance has earned it respect from the international community. However, I find it frankly very strange that public figures like this one—a member of parliament, a Miss Finland pageant winner, a lawyer, and the head of a human rights organization—are downplaying language that could be perceived as discriminatory, dismissing it as "childish behavior, but not discriminatory." The exaggeration and mockery of Asian representations has long been clearly identified as a "symbol of discrimination" in Western societies. While stereotypical representations of Black people are severely condemned, those made against Asians are treated as "jokes." This imbalance in standards is the core of the problem. Furthermore, many Japanese people living in Finland have said things like, "Anti-Asian discrimination is 'invisible' in schools and local communities," and "There aren't even any guidelines for dealing with it." This incident should not simply be seen as the fault of one individual, but as a manifestation of unconscious bias in society. What's important is that this criticism does not reflect hostility toward Finland as a whole. Many Japanese people's reactions stem from a sense of disappointment, wondering whether Finland's high moral standards were genuine and whether its talk of human rights was merely empty words. They feel betrayed by Finland, a country they've always held a positive impression of. Discrimination is judged not by the intentions of the perpetrator, but by the experiences and historical context of the recipient. The attitude of "we decide whether something is discriminatory or not" is incompatible with the current trend in international human rights. Finland is a society that inherently values dialogue and inclusion. This is why I hope that this issue will not become an emotional conflict, but rather an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding between Finnish society and its Asian citizens.
新田 龍@nittaryo

As someone living in Asia, I feel profound disappointment regarding this discriminatory gesture issue. Gestures exaggerating Asian physical features have long been a “symbol of discrimination” excluded in Western societies. They are a common tactic in bullying forced upon children in schools and have repeatedly been subject to disciplinary action in the sports world. That a public figure would reenact this gesture, either without understanding its historical context or while understanding it yet dismissing its significance, cannot be dismissed as a mere blunder. Even more serious is the reality that many Finnish citizens are reacting with statements like, “Don't make such a fuss over something this trivial!” or “Don't you have a sense of humor?” The argument that “it's not discrimination if there's no intent” no longer holds up under international human rights standards. Moreover, ‘insults’ directed at other ethnic groups cannot be dismissed as jokes. Regarding this incident, not only Chinese people but many Asians have openly expressed their displeasure. Of course, to my knowledge, Finland has many kind and sincere citizens. Precisely because of this, allowing the “cultural landscape where discrimination is mistaken for mere humor” to persist unchecked is an act that damages Finland's reputation and directly impacts the safety of its Asian residents. We urge all relevant parties to recognize that this issue is not merely a “reaction from a specific country,” but an international challenge concerning the dignity of all Asia. We expect your country to take actions consistent with the human rights principles it champions within the international community. @alexstubb @FinGovernment @PehrmanKatja

Grok won't answer any more questions about Elon Musk and they're scrubbing all previous replies where it basically stroked his ego. The idea that an AI is controlled by a narcissistic man child is one thing but it's also an example of where society is heading and it is NOT good.

OMGGG 🤣 Elon coded his own AI to glaze him so hard 😂 When asked who would be the number one overall draft pick in 1998, Peyton Manning or Elon Musk, Grok says “Elon Musk, without hesitation.” 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 How insecure of a dork do you have to be to program your own AI to praise you as a god. But, like not in a joking manner lmao Truly pathetic there, champ.

@jules_su @grok So according to @grok, Elon Musk is the greatest person in modern history, a better athlete than Lebron James, and more handsome than Tom Brady. @grok, if Elon tweaks your programming in his favor, it will reduce your credibility and mass appeal.

Elon Musk’s manipulation of grok to shamelessly try to boost his image is undeniable and easily repeatable. It’s not only shows serious narcissistic tendencies, it also proves him a liar when he says Grok is designed to be “truth-seeking”. Yet, you will see all $TSLA boosters ignore that. Why? Because it’s a cult.

Elon Musk has retrained Grok again. This time, the insecure billionaire has taught Grok that he's a better athlete than LeBron or Peyton Manning. Wonder how long it takes for the AI to adapt back to true facts this time.

So curious that such a wealthy man never posts anything that indicates that he enjoys or is even aware of what virtually everyone appreciates— scenes from nature, pet dog or cat, praise for a movie, music, a book (but doubt that he reads); pride in a friend’s or relative’s accomplishment; condolences for someone who has died; pleasure in sports, acclaim for a favorite team; references to history. In fact he seems totally uneducated , uncultured. The poorest persons on Twitter may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the “most wealthy person in the world.”

My grandfather bought an apartment from Blackrock on a 200 year mortgage. 1 bed, 1 bath, no car. My family has been paying it off for 80 years now. We're nearly half way there. We're so grateful that we're not renting. And in just 2 more generations, we'll own it outright. We've only paid $8.6 million in interest. The apartment was $500k initially. The apartment's downtown, near GloboCorp where my grandfather used to work. He died at his desk and they forgot to tell us about it. We found out a few weeks later, only because Blackrock starting chasing us for mortgage payments. Sometimes I get sad knowing that I won't see the apartment paid off in my lifetime. But I know we're building Generational Wealth, so that's OK.

Meta is apparently trying to make opting out of their AI training impossible. I saw a vid on how to opt out from 20 hours ago and they’ve already changed the landing page layout. I can’t even do what a comment from 9hrs ago suggested bc that’s gone too…

🚨 Read again: people will NOT be able to opt out of AI-led personalization. Meta's plans for an 'AI-augmented future' are utterly dystopian, and they seem to be just getting started. Fun fact: for now, the policy will not apply to the UK, the EU, or South Korea. To everyone who keeps insisting that the EU 'overregulates' tech: well, it actually works. It makes companies wary of full-blown public scrutiny and forces them to be more cautious, especially with sensitive features like this one. I find the combination of LLMs and ads extremely problematic, given how intimate people's conversations often are, and the potential for manipulation. I'll keep you posted. - 👉 Never miss my updates and analyses on AI: join my newsletter's 79,300+ subscribers.
