Powering OpenClaw with Opus 4.6 will put you in the poorhouse if you're a solopreneur playing by the rules and using the API. Here are some alternatives amongst the new models, and a simple tiered strategy to cut costs. 🦞 modilingua.com/ai-lab/best-op…

GEO advice is growing fast but most of it sounds generic and very English-centric. Who's building something that checks what's ready for localized AI search and where demands are emerging?

CAT tools: 30 years old, not glamorous, still industry standard. If you work in translation or hire translators, you'll run into them. Might as well know what they actually do. ⤵

AI can translate your tagline into 40 languages in 4 seconds. What it can't tell you is that your chosen color, number, or hand gesture means something very different in your target market. That's less of a prompt problem and more of a people problem.

The math is brutal: 1 language × 20 test cases × 5 minutes = 100 minutes. Now multiply by 47 languages. That's 78 hours of manual testing. Per release. Or you could write one Selenium script and run it in parallel. Your call. ⤵

A lot of vendors are still talking about multilingual scale as if the job ends at translated output. Multilingual content has to perform twice though: once for humans in-market and once for the AI retrieval that decides what gets cited...

Everyone has an opinion on machine translation. But what's the actual difference between MT engine, CAT tool, TMS, and an LLM? When to use which? What do translators even do anymore? I tried to untangle it: modilingua.com/l10n-and-t9n/g…

Good news: AI hasn't replaced human translators. But it replaced the job they used to do. Post-editing, QA, data cleaning, cultural strategy. That's the role now. An awful lot of highly qualified linguists are not thrilled about it. Can't say they weren't warned.

MT works really well for Spanish, French, German — languages with massive training datasets. For lower-resource languages, it can fall apart badly. "Does MT work?" is the wrong question. "Does MT work for this language pair?" is the right one.

Machine translation and AI translation aren't the same thing. NMT engines are fast, cheap, built for volume. LLMs let you prompt for brand voice, tone, glossary rules. Knowing which to use where is half the battle. The other half is not skipping the human review.

AI has already replaced human translators for bulk, low-visibility text. For your SaaS UI, marketing copy, and anything a real customer will read, taw MT output is still a liability. The workflow around the engine matters more than the engine itself.

"It's just a button label, how hard can it be?" The button label has no context, lives inside a 15-character limit, appears on three different screens, and must be formal in Japanese and casual in Brazilian Portuguese. Good fellow, this is a war.

The TMS as a standalone category may very well be obsolete by 2027. Here's what's replacing it and what it means for freelancers trying to figure out where they fit in:

Continuous localization is basically CI/CD for words. If you treat language files like code commits, the build won't break every time a new region is added.
