Canton was built without token sales or promises of future tokens. When the technology was ready, @digitalasset open sourced it and contributed it to the @CantonFdn. Today, 5% of all Canton Coin emissions go to the Protocol Development Fund, open to every institution and developer who wants to contribute to the @CantonNetwork's future. The goal is for the community to own the development of the Canton protocol. That work is already underway.
