@paulenglish1961 I think I saw his first United goal, in a 4-0 win over Leicester late in the 85-86 season. It was definitely Sparky’s last goal before he went to Barca.

Born in Birkenhead, Merseyside, 24th March 1961, Peter Davenport. He made his debut 15th March 1986, in the 1-0 loss to QPR. Davenport, could have made a dream debut that day but had a goal chalked off for offside. I Felt Davenport was Big Ron’s last throw of the dice. He scored 26 goals in 106 games, definitely not as prolific has Ron had hoped. He left United to join Middlesbrough in 1988. #MUFC #UTFR #GGMU #ManchesterUnited #ManUtd #ManUnited

If the police turned up at my flat tonight and said they were investigating a retrospective crime of 30 years ago to the day, and needed to know my whereabouts, I’d say: “I was at Old Trafford watching the King take us past Newcastle after being 14 points behind 3 months ago…”

@chrismartenson The only person in recent memory that went to jail for financial crimes was Martha Stewart and Madoff. Everyone else seems to get a pass or a fine in the case of JPM.

If nobody goes to jail for this, we've entered the 'every man for himself' stage of empire decline.

Downtown at 50: Looking forward to my last hurrah this Saturday at 10am with my long-time presenter buddy Paul Orr. As the operation prepares to move to its new Belfast base, Paul’s bringing me back to talk about my old Saturday Show and our regular guest line-up. @DowntownRadio

He was a wonderful man and very generous to me when I fell at his feet in awe in Baghdad many moons ago. Tall with a striking presence, he had on occasion an Afro bigger than mine!! A towering credit to our trade. RIP @nytimes

So very sorry to hear that my good friend John Burns of the NYT has died. We first met during the siege of Sarajevo. It annoyed me he got an egg for breakfast when we were so hungry. Then I found he was battling cancer — and still reporting from the most dangerous place on earth.

@RealGaryWebster You saw Cruyff? Magic. Mate of mine saw him at Wembley in 1977. He’s due to stop talking about it any day now

And what a game it was. On my Dad's shoulders in a truly packed Clock End before the biggest copper, I'd ever seen told me to get down. By that time I'd actually seen Johan Cryuff playing in real life so I was in heaven! Were about 50,000 there that night. Felt like 100,000♥️⚽️
Gary@Garyfooballnut

OTD in 1974, George Armstrong had his much deserved Arsenal testimonial against Barcelona. Geordie made 621 appearances, the 3rd highest, from 1962 to 1977. Great Arsenal man. Great player. ❤️🤍 ⚽️ 👏👏

Downtown at 50: The rascal that was Brian McSharry. A popular presenter whose time at Kiltonga was much shorter than expected. Here we see Brian behind the studio desk. In the other pic, he’s with Richard Young. The pair were @downtownradio’s team on the Circuit of Ireland rally.

@OllieHolt22 I remember Big Ron made a really late substitution and was asked why he brought off Albiston and replied “because he was the closest player to me.”
