@fbjailsuperstar Hey there Deb. In short, there has been a dramatic decline in inmate work hours since 2018. As of 2026, MoDOT currently has only 10% of the inmate labor hour pool statewide that was available in 2018.

@MoDOT Do they still have the prisoner work program for this? I haven’t seen it in quite a while, and yes, our highways are extremely littered.

We hit the field with one of our maintenance crews and saw firsthand the trouble with trash. Every hour spent picking up trash is an hour we could be spending on real road improvements. Take pride in Missouri roadsides—don’t litter. 🚮 #NoMOreTrash

MoDOT doesn’t put litter on our roads—but we do have to pick it up. When trash isn’t disposed of properly, our crews spend time and resources cleaning it instead of improving Missouri’s roads. Keep MO clean. 🚯

Not-so-fun fact: nearly 208,000 bags of trash were removed from Missouri Right of Ways JUST IN 2025. Like, COME ON PEOPLE!! Raccoons are cute and all, but lets all do our part to not give them any more trash to rate! ♻️🦝
