Bhojshala is a temple, says Madhya Pradesh High Court #bhojshala #highcourt indianexpress.com/article/legal-…

Last night, I had the honour of receiving the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award, a moment that feels both surreal and deeply humbling. I received this award for a story that has stayed with me in ways few others have-- the story of Harish Rana and his family’s long, painful fight for their child’s right to die with dignity. For 13 years, Harish lay in a vegetative state after a brutal fall, cared for by his ageing parents who carried an unimaginable emotional and physical burden. We reported this story in 2024, when the family approached the Supreme Court and their plea was denied. Two years later, last week, Harish passed away after the court allowed passive euthanasia. It is a story of love, endurance, and the devastating weight of hope. This award belongs as much to my editors who shaped my journey as it does to the story itself. Two years ago, @umavishnu told me this was a story worth doing, but more importantly, one that needed to be told with care, intent, and responsibility. Her vision, her guidance, and the heart she brings to editing each story have taught me what it truly means to do justice to a story. She has been a constant source of positivity and encouragement in the newsroom. @RitikaChopra__ has been an unwavering mentor, support and inspiration. Over the past three years, she has taught me patience, pushed me to be better every single day, and shown me, through her own work, what good journalism looks like. I am also deeply grateful to my editors @rajkamaljha , @unnishanker , and @iyervaidy for building a newsroom that allows curiosity to thrive. I walked in as a cub reporter with no formal experience or degree in journalism, and they never once limited me to a beat. Thank you for making space for me to explore, learn, and grow. @IndianExpress truly is an editor’s newsroom and I am incredibly lucky to be a part of it. This award is a milestone, but also a reminder of the responsibility that comes with telling stories that matter.
