Editors’ Choice 2024: mTORc2 in Distal Convoluted Tubule and Renal K+ Excretion during High Dietary K+ Intake mTORc2 plays a role in regulating renal K+ excretion (renal-EK) and K+ homeostasis. This study found that mTORc2 of the DCT inhibits Kir4.1/Kir5.1 activity and NCC expression and stimulates renal-EK during high potassium intake. bit.ly/JASN0406 #basicscience

Interstitial fibrosis and tubular atrophy (IFTA), and density and shape of peritubular capillaries (PTCs), are independently prognostic of disease progression. This study uncovered previously underrecognized digital biomarkers of disease progression and the clinical relevance of the complex interplay between the status of the PTCs and the interstitial microenvironment. bit.ly/CJASN0597 @lauramarianimd @PennKidney

Mitochondria-driven oxidative/redox stress and inflammation play a major role in CKD pathophysiology. This study found that six weeks of NR and CoQ10 improved markers of oxidative stress, inflammation, and cell bioenergetics in persons with moderate to severe CKD. bit.ly/CJASN0624 @broshan @JLGamboa_Velez

I was honored to introduce urine sediment examination to the nephrology practice in my hometown- Alexandria Egypt. I hope it positively impacts patient care and guides nephrologists towards more appropriate diagnostic and management decisions. #Nephforward ➡️

📢 On Universal Health Coverage Day, we call for action to ensure health for all, including the 850 million people living with kidney disease worldwide. 💡 Did You Know? Nearly 4 million rely on dialysis or transplants to survive, but many can’t afford it. 2 million lives are lost annually due to lack of access. Over 95% face additional health challenges, but workforce shortages in kidney care persist. 🚨 Act Now: Governments must prioritize kidney care in universal health coverage. ✍️ Join Us: Sign the petition: ow.ly/OcvH50TLOrS+ #UHCDay #UHC #HealthForAll #KidneyHealthMatters #UniversalHealthCoverage
