11th Day of Christmas…Cooking Fire Safety
Do not leave cooking unattended. If you have to leave the kitchen, turn off the heat source. Ensure appliances are clean and grease free. Have a fire blanket available in case of an emergency.
10th Day of Christmas…Packaging Disposal Fire Safety
Decoration & gift packaging is made of paper, card or soft plastics. Paper & card can be placed in your recycling bin, soft plastics in your general waste bin. Never burn household rubbish in your open fire or stove.
9th Day of Christmas…Toy & Clothing Fire Safety
This Christmas buy toys & clothing that contain the CE Mark. a CE mark should be visible on the product itself or on the packaging. Know real from fake. There are a number of indicators that the CE Mark is genuine.
8th Day of Christmas…Smoking Fire Safety
It's easy to fall asleep while your cigarette is still burning. Never smoke in bed. Use proper non-combustible ashtrays. Fully extinguish cigarettes and allow to cool before disposal. Add water to used ashtrays for extra fire safety.
7th Day of Christmas…Open Fire, Stove & Chimney Fire Safety
Make sure your chimney or stove flue is professionally cleaned twice a year. If installing a solid fuel appliance use an approved registered installer. Always place a spark guard in front of open fires when unattended.
6th Day of Christmas…Battery Fire Safety
Batteries present a fire risk when over-charged, short-circuited, submerged in water or if damaged. Never place waste batteries in your household bins. Waste batteries can be disposed of at your local civic amenity site free of charge.
5th Day of Christmas…Electrical Fire Safety
Switch off all lights & decorations last thing at night. Even lights & decorations need a break. Never overload plugs or extension leads as this causes overheating and possibly a fire. Buy electrical products that are CE marked.
4th Day of Christmas…Decoration Fire Safety
Are your old Christmas Lights still safe? Poorly stored, old electrical decorations can cause unnecessary hazards at this time of year. LED lights operating at extra low voltage with minimal heat output is recommended.

Fireworks are essentially small explosives and can cause full-thickness burns, traumatic amputations, blindness and hearing difficulties. Please be careful this Halloween!
Keep your pets inside on Halloween night. They may try to run away. Unfortunately it is not unheard of for pets and animals to be attacked.

Costumes really set the scene! However, some costumes are classified as ‘toys’ and are not required to meet the same fire safety standards as clothes. Check that the costume has a genuine CE safety mark and comes from a reputable dealer.
Don’t get too close to a bonfire. If you feel the heat from a fire, then you are too close. Clothes or costumes are at risk of catching fire. Remember STOP, DROP & ROLL.
