Before I share some thoughts on variance and poker I will just let you know a little about my background. I played for a living from 2010 to 2016 with moderate levels of success, but everything changed for me at the back end of 2014 when @padspoker, who I'd known for a few years already, posted this thread on blonde poker (shout out to blonde/@Tony_Kendall, amazing place full of good people, many well known UK heroes benefitted a lot from blonde) - blondepoker.com/forum/index.ph… This was the beginning of @bitBstaking and I was extremely fortunate to be a part of it from beginning to end. I started playing "mid-stakes" MTT's ($40-50 abi haha, how times have changed to what mid-stakes is deemed as now compared to back then) for around 18 months, mostly broke and struggling but enjoying the environment. The big moment that changed everything came when I began to work for the team and cut down on playing, eventually working full-time managing bitB and so I stopped playing altogether. I had five truly amazing years working in bitB, it changed every single aspect of my life, all for the positive, and during that time I'd be surprised if there was more than maybe a handful of people who analysed more graphs and data on Sharkscope than myself lol. So I've learned a little regarding variance, and I've picked up a few other things along the way working with 100's of poker players, including some of the very best in the game. I've never been active on socials but will look to stick to posting regularly here and share some of that knowledge to hopefully benefit those who want to follow. Cheers for reading if you got to the end :) <3 Enjoy your Friday!

@MarketMatt_SOC @thevenividi1993 That's extremely flawed logic Matt, assume your trolling and lack much understanding of how variance works, but fwiw any 1200 game sample won't prove too much on a players ability, nor does the 200 game heater obviously Good luck with the challenge @thevenividi1993

@thevenividi1993 Here’s my take on your charts, the 1st 1200/1400. those are tourneys, you sucked ass You’ve done really well in the last 200 tourneys Prior to that you were -150K, had a good run since winning 1/2 huge tourneys What’s it prove…?you’re on a good run or that you normally suck

Week 39: Total on account: +$1,048,639 Cash game results including rakeback: +$56,558 MTT results: +$141,927 A like on this post is much appreciated. What can I say? We're back with a bang again! For the first time in the challenge, we've smashed through the $1,000,000 mark. Did I believe we'd hit this milestone eventually? Absolutely. I've always had (too much) confidence in myself. But to reach it this quickly and violently? That, I didn’t expect. Right now, I'm in the zone like never before. When we bluff, they fold. When we hold value, we get paid. And most importantly, even when we make a big mistake, the deck seems to have our back. It’s not my first time getting close to winning a big challenge, with my opponent seemingly down and out. But the key now is to stay focused, keep working, and continue improving. I’ve got some study sessions lined up for this week, along with some fun content coming soon. This challenge has reignited a sense of purpose in me, which I really needed. It’s been a great reminder of the importance of staying persistent, especially since we struggled so much in the early stages. Hopefully, I've been transparent about that part. I’m thrilled to be this close already—and it’s only September! But, I can't help but hear that little voice in the back of my head asking, "What happens after we reach the goal?" The biggest cliché turned out to be true after I reached financial freedom: I lost my sense of purpose. What followed were some of the most unhappy months of my life. For now, we celebrate this milestone and move on to the next goal. Please enjoy the graphs of this wild hot streak, and stay tuned for more updates and stories about my journey. If you liked this post, give it a thumbs-up!

In his second appearance on the show, @NateSilver538 and @tylercowen tackle how coin flips solve status quo bias, gambling’s origins in divination, what kinds of betting Nate would ban, why he’s been limited on several of the New York sports betting sites, whether poker players make for good employees, running and leaving FiveThirtyEight, why funky batting stances have disappeared, AI’s impact on sports analytics, the most underrated NBA statistic, the stupidest risks Tyler and Nate would take, prediction markets, and how many monumental political decisions have been done under the influence of drugs. Here's Nate on Sam Bankman-Fried, “the River,” and the trait more effective altruists need to develop:

One of our members in @cncpoker shared his struggles regards variance in our community yesterday and thought I'd share my response here to hopefully benefit someone else who's struggling on a downswing at the moment.

It's still early in the series, but I'm currently top of two of the leaderboards 😀 It's difficult when I'm on an early time zone in Vancouver, and also not playing the highest NLHE things, but do I try going for them or not this year? 🤔
