If the DENR Secretary equates development with cutting down trees stating that this is necessary, he should resign from the DENR. Development should not be at the expense of the environment.

People are so busy patting this guy on the back that they refuse to actually listen to what Filipinos are saying. Nobody was attacking him for making ube ice cream. Filipinos were simply pointing out the historical context so presenting it like a newly “developed” vegan concept

@Jay_revs55 We were trying to explain that ube is already naturally vegan but it was met with snarky remarks. People had every right to react when a culture you claim to appreciate gets dismissed like that

when Filipinos push back on narratives that unintentionally erase the origins of ube dishes, they are not trying to stop cultural exchange, they’re asking for acknowledgment of the communities that kept these traditions alive long before they became trendy or marketable online 🙂

which happens often when marginalized communities try to contextualize their own culture online. Correcting historical framing is not the same as attacking someone 🙂

Filipinos were asking OP to clarify that they did not “develop” a vegan ube recipe because ube-based desserts already have deeply rooted vegan or plant-based origins in Filipino culture
