Taken at its *most rational* (which is granting it a privilege it doesn't deserve), Israel's *best argument* about the war is that it's a war of necessity, that if Israel doesn't destroy Hamas, then Hamas will not stop trying to destroy Israel, and so Israel has no choice but to keep fighting it until Hamas is "ended". What many don't realize is that this is exactly the line of argumentation Hamas uses: That there can be no peace with Israel and that Israel never did and never will stop attacking, dispossessing, subjugating, murdering, and expelling Palestinians, and that Hamas has no choice but to keep fighting Israel until Israel is destroyed. Faced with this you can either accept one side of the impasse and commit to it, or you can try to cut through the impasse. The Western world's leadership have already committed themselves to Israel's side. Either way, this conflict is now a zero-sum impasse, and the costs of this impasse will skyrocket in every way as we move forward.
