I'm trying to understand all the characters by putting myself in their shoes, and in my eyes, both of them are victims. Ian refuses to grant TJ atonement cause he doesnt want to forgive him and he wants TJ to suffer in this guilt by his side. However, only TJ can truly break free from this cycle, as I don't believe he can live this way forever. That is why the polaroid represents such a distant future like Doyak said.

@mono34724 i think "fate" is just a way to dress up abuse in the story especially between tj and ian. fate didnt break ian's leg, send him to jail or indebt him. it was tj. ian's processes the abuse he faces as something he deserves bcoz he believes he ruined tj, textbook victim mentality

This is a story of starcrossed lovers destined for tragedy. Ian, the MC ultimately sacrifices the life he desires with Joseph the ML, the man he loves, to embrace a wretched fate that binds him to TJ. When Ian tells TJ, "ILY," he closes his eyes cause the confession is a lie and he says it only to silence TJ and prevent him from ever discussing the past. In the same way, Ian once kissed TJ to stop him from admitting his guilt over breaking Ian’s legs. In an attempt to see if he could find happiness within this "wretched fate," Ian tries to recreate the domestic life he shared with Joseph with TJ but he only ends up sitting alone, smoking because TJ is not Joseph. He eventually finds his answer while watching the constellation Orion and a shooting star—a final sign left by Joseph. It confirms that although they cannot be together, the love they shared remains eternal. Ian’s treatment of TJ, however is undeniably cruel. By refusing to let TJ speak of the past or atone for his mistakes, Ian traps him in a state of perpetual guilt and limbo, leaving TJ anxious and unhappy. Conversely, Joseph is able to move on and live in his element, finding peace in the knowledge that Ian’s love for him was true. It's also cruel that Joseph doesn't know what Ian sacrificed for him. Ultimately, Ian believes he destroys everyone he loves so by choosing this path, he ensures Joseph’s safety and protects the "innocent blue eyes" he cherishes so much. He can one day eventually die with a smile, knowing he protected the only man he ever truly loved from the wretched fate that haunts him. Ian knows exactly what Joseph meant to him, which is why he never wears the ring on his finger —a truth TJ clearly understands, making the ending truly bittersweet.

Destiny Destiny sits in Jo’s story as a completed path. 5 years together, shared routines...that kind of history usually carries weight forward. It tends to shape what comes next or pull someone back into it. With Jo, it doesn’t. Time doesn’t turn into attachment that lingers. Familiarity doesn’t become something he returns to. When she comes to mind after the dream about Ian, it marks the edge of what he has known before. A structure that made sense to him. The feeling for Ian doesn’t fit into it & he doesn’t try to force it to. He lets it exist outside of that framework instead of reshaping it to match. The Orion myth sharpens that shift. It comes from her & then loses its original anchor. The meaning doesn’t stay tied to where it started. It moves forward and attaches itself to Ian. Something learned in one relationship becomes central in another without carrying the same origin with it. That movement shows how Jo handles what comes from the past. He doesn’t preserve it in place. He allows it to change function. Her presence later keeps that same idea intact. A return exists in a simple and open way. No tension, no barrier, no unresolved attachment forcing a decision. The connection remains possible. It still doesn’t take hold. Nothing about that history redirects him. Everything around her points to continuity. A life that could keep going on the strength of what’s already there. Jo moves past that. Duration doesn’t decide for him. Nor does familiarity. Even something that looks like it could have been a fixed path stays behind as he moves forward.

It wasn't about winning or endgame rather it was about a tragic love story between the main couple. Although it is usually normalized for the protagonist to end up with the main lead, this story defies that convention. If Ian had ended up with Joseph, he would have experienced significant character development, leaving his past behind to live his desired life including TJ too. Instead, only Joseph achieved that growth by the end.

@mono34724 I respect your opinion. But the final chapters don't make sense to me. Ian is still blaming himself for things he didn't do. TJ is still lying. And the beautiful Joe in the ep is a consolation prize to convince us that everything is great and everyone is happy.

I wasn't interested in TJ's gangster affairs at all. Instead, I would have gladly watched more of JoIan's domestic romantic moments, their long conversations, confessions. It would have been better if the story had focused on Ian's healing, not on who would win.
