A simple character doesn't mean a flat character. I think this is a problem most of the woolhaven-specific characters have. There's a difference between leaving aspects of a character open for interpretation, and just making a template with a name.

Why he did something, and there'll be an answer somewhere. Its quite easy to set a baseline for a simple character that continues to explain their behavior even an hour later. Even when he's going to shoot the puppy—in the face—there is a REASON behind that action.

Chars doing evil shit for no reason besides "im the villain" is the "lul so random" of writing. And its what makes Marchosias a poorly written villain. But see, if you look at WH critically it becomes apparent that Marchosias isnt meant to be the villain. He's an antihero.
