the only ethical choice in 2026 is to read literature about the decay of western society. we need bernhard, mann, houellebecq, zweig out in full force

What Sartre liked so much about paintings is that they have nothing to say, and he thought that writers should strive for the same thing. Rancière saw this thought as a sign of the modernist move from representation to expression, towards the "mute speech" of art & literature

just remembered that the homosexual dream of perfect metaphysical union is not so much a reflected heterosexual ideal as it is the compensation for having wept in the darkness

A problem with literary writing being funny is that literary writers generally want to convey a certain intelligence in their tone, or even for the very logic of their sentences to be a highly operational and unique intelligence, while it’s much easier for stupid to read as funny

@roryisconfused honestly have not stopped thinking about Anna's piece... so many people talked to me about it at the pub too, everyone seemed so blown away. So beautifully read too! @moonbeeaam you're a star!

The mother of Mikaeil Mirdoraghi, a third-grade student grade student killed in U.S. airstrike on primary school in Minab: I had prepared dinner for him and when he was eating he said: “Mom, the food you made tastes like heaven.” I said: “My son, why are you saying this? You’ve never said this before.” Around midnight he put pillows around himself and sat with his brother. He said: “Brother, let’s play. I’m Iran and you’re America. Let’s play with guns and tanks.” They started playing together. He said: “See, Iran won? Brother, Iran won. I was Iran and I won.” My son said Iran was the winner. All these things seemed to be inspired to him that night. He did all of this the night before his martyrdom. He also prayed and read the Quran that night. In the morning he said: “Mom, take a picture of me.” This child was an angel. He used to say: “My name is Mikaeel. Mikaeel means God’s angel. If anyone has a wish, tell me so I can fulfill it.” God loved him too and took him to Himself. It is true, exactly like that. It was the heartless America that launched a missile at this school where there was nothing suspicious. I myself lived in Minab for four years. They just wanted to kill our children.
