Before pride month starts im just gonna say this: -men’s mental health month is in November -straight pride isn’t a thing. Nobody has ever been oppressed or killed for being straight -veterans get 2 months. May and November So do some research before complaining :)

On this day in 2020, George Floyd was murdered by a white police officer who knelt on his neck for 9 & a 1/2 mins in a video that shocked many, even moving people to act to end racism. That pursuit still matters. Rest in peace George Floyd🙏🏾

@ItsNotGivingX it wasn’t in my intention to label it as a universal experience for all of us but it still an experience that can spark great discussions in our community. and i hope it’ll only open more rooms for films that represent us in different black queer stories.

@moonsbearer I mean it objectively doesn’t capture all of our experiences but it still is a very real experience nonetheless

i don’t understand how moonlight doesn’t represent the black gay male experience. this film identifies the struggles of toxic masculinity pushed onto black men by the age of five.

then will say things like “well why don’t we have a call me by your name. elio was a teenager being groomed by a grown man who was living in the closet. how is that any better than moonlight? because you like how it looks on white people?

some of y’all responses to moonlight under question of being considered a black gay experience stems from a disdain that y’all have towards black ghetto experiences.

Hating on Moonlight and reducing it down to a “DL story” is next level evil. I see why some of yall need the AI voice in the background while watching movies and TV shows.

i wouldn’t even call it a love story, more so the deconstruction of black men and how they are hindered by their own self-expression and true identity.

i do not like how anyone is speaking down on moonlight just because it’s depicted in a certain way that’s not a heated rivalry or call me by your name. it is honest, raw, sad yet beautiful. the experience that most young black men go through in silence and alone.

they not only grow up fighting against white supremacy, but also the mirrored behaviors from those that are also suffering from white supremacy. they lose themselves and suppress who they’re supposed to be to fit a stereotype forced upon them without say.
