In museum vaults (thank heavens for them, and for curators and collection managers) you often find remarkable things. In these bottles are new records of entire families of cirrate octopuses from Australian waters, and new distribution records of species. Remarkable for 2022!

So I found this one-off exquisite, preserved specimen of 'Grimpoteuthis' (ID pending) in the deep-sea collections of the National Museum of Natural History, Paris, France, yesterday. It was collected off New Caledonia. Just WOW. Magnificent. It is so good to be back into science.

Until now, I only had the chance to examine a defrozen Octopoteuthis callipso (thanks @MartaAlboP). Thanks to @moragtaite today I've briefly measured 11 specimens of 5 species. This is how they look like on museum jars (some of them collected decades ago).
