Just because a college athlete is good doesn’t mean they’re going to play professionally — in fact, only 2% of college athletes actually go pro. Remember, student athletes aren't pros, and they definitely don’t deserve to be harassed over a sports bet.

Any harassing or abusive language towards #StudentAthletes can result in suspension from sports betting platforms, now including @BetMGM. This policy is not to limit individuals from betting, but “to reinforce the group’s commitment to protecting players and integrity in sports.” Learn more about this policy at the link in the comments.

The Big Ten Student Athlete Issues Commission (SAIC), a commission of college athletes who represent their schools, sent a letter to #NCAA President Charlie Baker: “Prop bets are a direct avenue to the overwhelming number of death threats that student-athletes receive if they ‘ruin a parlay’ or cause a fan to lose their bet.” While Ohio has already outlawed #PropBetting, the letter highlights the growing threat of betting-related harassment.
