Israel’s security cabinet has approved 19 new illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank, bringing the total legalized over the past three years to 69, according to Israel’s own finance minister Bezalel Smotrich. In a public post, Smotrich said the decision was advanced with Defense Minister Israel Katz and framed it as a record expansion aimed at entrenching Israeli control and blocking a Palestinian state. Most of the approvals retroactively legalize outposts built on seized Palestinian land, moves considered illegal under international law and widely condemned by the UN and human rights groups.
