You have grown another year older, my son... grown up amidst war, fear, and displacement. On a day like this, I wished so deeply to throw you a party that would fill the world with laughter, to buy you the most beautiful toys, and for life to make us a birthday cake as pure as your innocent heart.
But the war has stolen everything from us... it stole our home, our money, and our joy, leaving us with nothing but our souls holding onto each other.
My darling, forgive me because my hands are tied, my resources are scarce, and the situation is harder than any words can describe. I have no money to buy you a gift, nor a safe place where we can celebrate. But I give you my life, and I give you my heart that prays for you every single second.
