Co-creating education isn't a buzzword, it's our proven methodology. Over the past year, more than12,000 learners across Kenya and Tanzania have transitioned from passive recipients to active architects of their education through ICS SP's Life Skills training model. This week leading to #InternationalDayOfEducation, we're sharing the evidence: real stories from schools like Busidibu Primary and Ochok Kadongo, where learners are creating peer support systems, redesigning school policies, and leading governance structures. Each day, we'll explore the four pillars of children's rights: 🛡️ Protection - Safety from harm and abuse ❤️ Survival - Access to basic needs like healthcare and nutrition 🌱 Development - Opportunities to reach full potential through education 🗣️ Participation - Having a voice in decisions that affect them What makes our model different? ✅ Learners sit on school Boards of Management not as tokens, but as decision-makers ✅ Student-led enterprises generate income that supports vulnerable peers ✅ 100% of our life skills graduates show improved discipline in school and at home ✅ Learner-designed tools have been adopted across our programs in Kenya and Tanzania This isn't theory. It's practice. See the impact. Join the movement. 🌟 Looking to invest in scalable, youth-centered, rights-based education with proven outcomes? Follow our stories this week, then let's connect to discuss partnership opportunities for 2026. 👇 icsafrica-sp.org/make-a-donatio… Download 'Hear It In Our Voices' 👉 icsafrica-sp.org/wp-content/upl…

Beatrice Ogutu, Executive Director, Investing in Children and the societies (ICS-SP): Holiday seasons are a double-edged sword for parents; it’s a time for fun because our children are back home, but it comes with its own share of stress. The family is the first home for a child and the parent is the first educator. Intentionality in creating time to be together with our children, to connect, to build that relationship, this is the season to make that intentional time. You can take two hours and make it a very quality time to interact, to know your child and guide them. Parents must take care of themselves, to rest and eat well, so that they show up well #CitizenMondayReport

In Côte d’Ivoire, cocoa is more than a crop it’s a source of livelihood for millions of families. Yet, behind the sweetness of cocoa lies a difficult truth: too many children are still engaged in hazardous labour within plantations. At Investing in Children and their Societies (ICS SP), we believe every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment not the burden of labour. Therefore, through our Integrated Child Protection and Strengthening of the Family, School, and Community Environment Project in Nestlé’s supply chain, we’re working with the COOPASG cooperative in Divo to ensure that children are protected, educated, and thriving. Together with the Government of Côte d’Ivoire, communities, and partners, we are: ✅ Training parents, teachers, and community leaders to prevent child labour. ✅ Supporting children to return to school and access vocational training. ✅ Strengthening local protection systems and improving safe learning environments. So far, our work has supported hundreds of children, including many former child workers, to access education and life skills training. Strengthened over 800 parents, caregivers, and teachers with knowledge on child protection and family well-being. Mobilized communities to make schools safer, families stronger, and futures brighter. When families are resilient and communities unite, child labour is preventable. #EndChildLabour #ChildProtection #CocoaCommunities #StrongFamilies #SafeChildhoods #ICS-SP #CoteDIvoire #PartnershipForChange

Sharing an inspiring experience, I had recently in #Garissa that beautifully highlights the impact of the #PositiveParentingProgramme. Launched in 2022 by the #GovernmentofKenya with UNICEF's support. This initiative promotes a safe, nurturing, and nonviolent family environment. Yesterday, I witnessed the profound effects of this programme in Garissa County @GarissaGov, in partnership with Investing in Children & Societies. The atmosphere was electric, and the enthusiasm was palpable. What stood out most strikingly was the active involvement of men, who took centre stage for all the right reasons. They shared their personal journeys with such passion, illustrating the transformative power of positive parenting. Men and women alike spoke fervently about the newfound harmony in their homes. Men are now more than willing to share household chores with their wives, fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. They are also eager to engage with other men in their communities, offering parenting support and building stronger connections with their children. Investing in children and positive parenting is not just a moral imperative; it is the foundation for nurturing stronger, kinder, more responsible, and productive citizens and societies. The impact of this programme is far-reaching, contributing significantly to the development of human capital. @CarrenAgengo @UNICEFKenya @ChildServicesKE @LabourSPKE Thanks to our development partners @UKAidKenya @UKGov @USAID @SwedeninKE @Sweden

🌟 Strengthening Partnerships, Celebrating Impact! 🌟 We were honoured to host a successful donor visit in Kakuyuni location, Machakos county under the Malezi Mema Elimu Bora (MAMEB) project, in partnership with ERIKS Development partner. The visit offered a powerful opportunity to showcase the tangible progress we're making in improving learning outcomes, strengthening families, and creating safe, nurturing environments for children. 📍 Visit Highlights: ✅ Courtesy call to the County Commissioner’s Office – reinforcing government collaboration and support. ✅ A vibrant engagement at Kakuyuni Primary School, where learners shared how life skills sessions are boosting their confidence, critical thinking, and ability to make positive choices. ✅ A meaningful session with parents and caregivers, who reflected on how the Positive Parenting Programme is helping them understand child development, embrace positive discipline, and foster stronger parent-child relationships. 👩🏽‍🏫 Teachers Matter Too! Through our Lunch & Learn sessions, teachers are being equipped with tools to better understand and respond to their learners’ unique needs, apply positive discipline strategies, and build nurturing, respectful classroom environments. 💬 “I’ve learned to listen more, shout less, and guide my child with patience. Our relationship has completely changed.” – Caregiver, Kakuyuni We celebrate this continued progress as a collective effort — made possible by committed parents, educators, community leaders, and government stakeholders. Together, we are creating safe, inclusive, and empowering learning environments for every child. #MAMEB #PositiveParenting #LifeSkills #EmpoweredTeachers #SafeLearningEnvironments #ChildParticipation #ParentalEngagement #DonorVisit #ICS_SP #EducationForAll #TransformingCommunities #BetterTogether

🔎Hidden in Plain Sight: Child Labour in Everyday Life Child labour isn’t always found in faraway factories or fields it often hides in plain sight. While we may pass by children helping in kiosks, working in households, or engaging in street vending, we rarely stop to ask: Is this child missing school? Are they safe? Are they growing up too fast? 👷🏾‍♀️ What Child Labour IS: 1. Work that keeps children out of school or affects their ability to learn. 2. Hazardous, exploitative work that endangers health or development. 3. Unseen labour in homes, farms, and small businesses that denies children their right to play, learn, and grow. 🚫 What Child Labour is NOT: 1. Helping with light, age-appropriate chores at home. 2. Fair youth employment for teens above legal age with protections in place. 3. Structured apprenticeships that promote skill-building and education. ⚠️ The Side Effects: 1. Lost education and stunted potential 2. Physical and emotional health risks 3. Continued cycles of poverty and vulnerability Child labour may be hidden, but its impact is lasting let’s act now to make the invisible, visible. #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour #HiddenInPlainSight #EndChildLabour #ChildProtection #ProtectEveryChild #TruthTuesday #SocialJustice #EducationForAll

🌍 Exciting News! We’re thrilled to announce the publication of a new case study by @Prevent_Collab and Investing in Children and their Societies (ICS SP) showcasing how a gender-transformative parenting programme is being scaled nationally in Kenya and across the region! Since 2019, we have worked with Prevention Collaborative to integrate a gender lens into its Skilful Parenting programme. Today, this innovative and impactful approach is in action in Kenya, Tanzania, and Cote d’Ivoire. 🇰🇪 In Kenya, our collaboration with @UNICEFKenya and the @KenyaGov led to the development of the Kenya National Positive Parenting Programme (NPPP) an evidence-based initiative recognized in the National Prevention and Response Plan to reduce violence against children. 🚀 And the momentum continues! At the 1st Global Ministerial Conference to End VAC, the Government of Kenya committed Ksh 2.6 billion to reach 2 million families by 2027. 👉 Whether you're a policymaker, donor, practitioner, or advocate this is a moment worth celebrating and learning from. 🎥Watch the video: Voices From the Field: Skilful Parenting Program - YouTube See the link Below: shorturl.at/16P7A #GenderTransformative #PositiveParenting #VACPrevention #CaseStudy #ICS_SP #PreventionCollaborative #ChildProtection #InvestingInChildren #StrongerFamilies #GlobalPartnerships

Child labour isn’t always visible but it’s closer than we think. In our homes. In our neighbourhoods. In our communities. As we approach World Day Against Child Labour (June 12th), we reflect deeply on how our community can take a stand. Because change starts right here with us. 📊 According to the ILO, 152 million children, 64 million girls and 88 million boys are in child labour globally. That’s 1 in every 10 children worldwide. 🔻 While child labour declined by 94 million since 2000, the pace of progress has slowed by two-thirds in the past four years. So what can we do as a community to End Child Labour? 1. Speak up when you see it Don’t normalize or ignore exploitation. Report suspected cases your voice can protect a child’s future. 2. Support families, not just children Poverty is a root cause. Let’s invest in family resilience through education, economic empowerment, and community care. 3. Keep every child in school Let’s ensure every girl and boy in our community has access to education not chores or unsafe work. 4. Question the silence “It’s just helping out” isn’t always harmless. Let’s challenge cultural norms that excuse child exploitation, especially in domestic work. 5. Be part of the solution Join advocacy efforts, community forums, and programs like the TIPO Project because every action counts. 🧒🏾 Every child in our community deserves a childhood filled with learning, laughter, and love not hard labour and exploitative work. Let’s protect children. Empower families. And break the cycle of exploitation. Because when we act together change is possible. #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour #TIPOProject #NotInvisibleAnymore #ProtectOurChildren #CommunityAction #ChildProtection #EndChildLabour #SafeChildhood #KisumuCounty #ICS #FreedomFund #SocialJustice #StopChildDomesticWork #BeTheChange #EnvisioningAWorldWithoutChildLabour

So, Why Play? Because play is more than just fun it’s how children learn, grow, and thrive. As we mark the International Day of Play, we’re reminded that every laugh, every question, and every imaginative moment is shaping a child’s future. Here’s why play matters: 🧠 Play builds brains – It boosts creativity, memory, and decision-making. 💬 Play strengthens relationships – It nurtures trust and emotional bonding between children and caregivers. 💚 Play heals – It provides a safe space for children to express emotions and recover from stress or trauma. 🤝 Play teaches life skills – It encourages teamwork, empathy, resilience, and communication. 😊 Play sparks joy – It boosts confidence and promotes emotional well-being. Whether it’s storytelling, drawing, pretend play, or kicking a ball play is a powerful form of learning. This #InternationalDayOfPlay, let’s encourage parents, caregivers, educators, and communities to create time and space for meaningful play. Just 15 minutes a day can make a lifelong impact. #PlayTodayBuildTomorrow #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #PositiveParenting #CaregiverSupport #LearningThroughPlay #ChildProtection #SkillfulParenting #InternationalDayOfPlay2025

Not Invisible Anymore #NIA Today, on #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour, we raise our voices to uncover a crisis that has remained hidden in plain sight for far too long child domestic work. In Kisumu County, #ICSSP, in partnership with the Freedom Fund, is leading a bold step forward through a high-level roundtable under the theme “Tije Pacho mag Nyithindo Oseyangore.” This gathering brings together key stakeholders from government leaders and civil society to youth champions and survivors to confront the harsh realities of exploitative Child Domestic Work. Together, we will spotlight lived experiences, showcase grassroots efforts through the #TIPO/NIA project, and build actionable commitments toward lasting impact. Let’s stop looking away. Join the movement. Amplify the voices of children. Act now to make child labour especially in our homes an issue of the past. #DACL #EndChildLabour

🌍 Commemorating World Day Against Child Labour #WDACL2025 📍 Kisumu, Kenya Investing in Children and their Societies (ICS SP), in partnership with @Freedom_Fund , convened a high-level stakeholders’ forum to bring to light the often hidden realities of child labour and its devastating impact on children, families, and communities. Under the theme: “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts,” The forum brought together government officials, CSOs, and development partners in a unified call to accelerate efforts to end child labour in all its forms. Kisumu County Governor H.E @AnyangNyongo delivered a powerful keynote address, with strong messages that deeply resonated: 1️⃣“Eliminating child labour is not just a legal responsibility it is a moral and developmental obligation.” 2️⃣ “No economy or society can thrive if its children are trapped in cycles of poverty and exploitation.” 3️⃣ “That is why we must invest more in prevention, education, and family resilience.” 4️⃣ “To our young people and survivors of child labour: your voice matters your future matters. And we are here to walk with you.” 💬 These words echoed the purpose of the day to reaffirm our collective commitment to protect every child and secure a future where no child’s potential is compromised by exploitation. #WDACL2025 #EndChildLabour #ICS SP #FreedomFund #GovernorAnyangNyongo #ProtectEveryChild #ChildProtection #KisumuForum #YouthVoicesMatter #NoChildLeftBehind #TogetherForChildrena

🌍 Day of the African Child 2025 Theme: “Planning and Budgeting for Children’s Rights” Today, we honor the courage of the students who marched in Soweto in 1976, demanding their right to quality education. Their bravery ignited a movement and decades later, we still echo their call: every African child deserves to be heard, protected, and empowered. Across the continent, millions of children still face barriers poverty, conflict, exploitation, and limited access to education and health care. Yet, we also see stories of resilience, innovation, and hope: young changemakers, community-led solutions, and growing recognition that investing in children is investing in Africa’s future. This year's theme is a call to #governments, #policymakers, civil society, and all of us: Integrate children’s voices into planning processes Allocate sufficient, transparent, and equitable resources Track and evaluate impact not just inputs When we budget for children, we are budgeting for equity, justice, and generational change. Let’s invest where it matters most. Because every child counts and every coin should count for them. #DayOfTheAfricanChild2025 #ChildRights #InvestInChildren #BudgetForChildren #LeaveNoChildBehind #AfricaRising #ChildCenteredPlanning
