@mozzwald PHP! :) Do you access it with an HTTP request? I've been making custom binary protocols, implemented in NodeJS. Looks like your news source is newsdata.io That's that critical piece. I've got some news related plugins for READYChat.

And this is why the #C64 has no prayer (even with a SuperCPU) of being able to consume webpages without sane server-side proxying that converts, downsizes and restructures the content into manageable bite-sized pieces. thatshubham.com/blog/news-audit

@gregnacu I absolutely cache results from the free tier. Then I get the full article from the original link and strip out the readable article text from the modern garbage. Articles are saved to local sql and shown on request.

@mozzwald I just checked out the newsdata.io API. It's a pretty steep incline. Free is $0, but limited obviously. The next step us is $200 a month! Whoa. How are you guys using it/paying for it. I know that local caching of results can go a long way to in using free requests.

@gregnacu yes, php and plain text results. The source has changed several times due to the API changing the rules for free tier. I even had a stint with scraping which got caught and blocked :D it's running thenewsapi.com now.

@mozzwald @BoredElonMusk I’m pretty sure you get warned when it’s getting low. You can plug it in that night, and you’re good to go a few months again. This is a nothing burger.

Just because Jony Ive was hired to design a product doesn't mean it's awesome.

@gregnacu @BoredElonMusk except when it's dead, you have 1 minute left to bid on that eBay auction and you forgot how to navigate with keyboard 😅

@BoredElonMusk What’s wrong with this? No blemishes visible when the mouse is right side up, and you charge it when you’re not using it. 30 mins of charge for like 3 months of use. I honestly don’t see the problem.

@johnrheritage @tschak FujiNet was configured to forward all data to a relay server that manages the psuedo ring network. The game we played was not local at all, @tschak was in Texas, I was in Illinois and the server was in New York😎

@tschak @mozzwald Very awesome! How does it know to talk to other local Fujinet Ataris and set one of them as the master/host?

@mozzwald spent the last week retooling #FujiNet Midimaze mode to use TCP, as well as modifying the ROM to have a larger timeout, as well as fine-tuning flow control. Now MidiMaze is stable. This will be available in an upcoming update. #retrocomputing. youtu.be/AHwQQJzXEmg

It plugs into your system's peripheral bus and can emulate disk drives, printers, and modems—while connecting to the internet. Originally designed for #Atari 8-bit computers, it now supports #commodore, #apple II, and other platforms. Learn more at fujinet.online
