He shook his paw not to say thank you, but goodbye.
They found him tied to a shopping cart, poisoned and barely breathing. The officer who heard his faint whimper wasn’t even supposed to be there but he stopped, lifted the dying puppy, and stayed all night beside him.
When morning finally came, the little black lab opened his eyes. Weak and shaking, he reached out one paw. The officer took it gently and made a quiet promise. You are safe now. I am not letting go.
Three months later, that same puppy walked back into the police station. Healthy, bright eyed, and full of life. They named him Shadow.
He did not return as a K9 officer. He came back as something even more powerful. A therapy dog for officers who carry heavy memories, those who have seen things they cannot unsee. Shadow sits with them, comforts them, reminds them that the world still has soft places.
He even has his own badge. Number 27B. The number of the patrol car where he was found and saved.
Heroes don’t always wear uniforms. Sometimes, they wag their tails.

@eurofounder Most people will die on that hill for Google. I would not and did not. Now, $100k base is decent. However, real conversations should be around ability to grow, promotional path, benefits - Pto, 401k matching, health, and etc. Funny - I am a woman and no man needed for that.

My wife woke up yesterday jumping from excitement
She just received a job offer from Google
"Babe, they want to pay me $300k, $100k base plus $200k in stock options" she said
I sat down and held her hand
"Sweetheart, that means they are offering you just $100k"
"No look, it says total compensation is $300k"
I gently closed her laptop
"Stock options are imaginary money, it's a well known American scam, it's not real" I said
"But I could just sell them for cash?" she asked
I tried not to laugh, women can be so naive sometimes
"That's not how stocks work. Who told you this?"
She said her recruiter explained it
I sighed. Of course. An American filled her head with nonsense
"Baby, American stocks are worthless, it's imaginary shares from an imaginary company"
"But it's such a good offer" she started crying
"I know, baby" I hugged her, and right there I knew I needed to act
It's my job as a husband to shield her from American predators
Later I emailed the recruiter and declined on her behalf
I explained that my wife is not interested in fantasy compensation from a failing company
We are European. We don't fall for American tricks
She will keep her job at SAP making €43,000 a year, which puts her above most women in Germany
Feels good knowing I protected our future
