This month marks 2 years of serving as your Councilwoman. In that time, I’ve delivered over $107M in direct community investments and helped secure $300M+ in private investments for our district. Here’s a quick(ish) recap of the highlights — I tried to keep it under 5 minutes… emphasis on tried. Cheers to the wins so far and the momentum ahead! You can also watch this video on YouTube — link in bio.

We marked 7 years of KC Tenants building power, picking fights, & winning material gains with the people. KCT has empowered thousands who feel tired & beat down to do something about it- to build anyway, to organize anyway & to fight like their lives depend on it because they do.

It’s not just a tax. It’s community centers, youth programs, and jobs for Kansas Citians. Councilwoman @mph_kcmo says renew the E-Tax. Vote yes on or before April 7th.

Thank you to the Kansas City Star and Mara Rose Williams for covering this year’s State of the Third District. It was powerful to gather with hundreds of residents, partners, and leaders to reflect on the progress we’ve made and where we’re headed next. I’m grateful to represent a community that shows up, stays engaged, and is committed to building a stronger Third District together. amp.kansascity.com/opinion/opn-co…

Access to vision care shouldn’t be out of reach. That’s why my office is partnering with Focus on Missions and several community organizations to host a Free Eye Screening & Glasses Clinic THIS Saturday, March 14 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at ArtsTech. Residents ages 15 and older can receive a free eye screening and, if needed, a free pair of glasses same-day. Services will be available first come, first served. RSVP: eventbrite.com/e/free-eye-scr… I hope to see you there as we work together to make basic health services more accessible for our community.

Glad to join the Kansas City Tomorrow Affordable Housing Panel to talk about the challenges and opportunities facing our region. We discussed city policies, financing strategies, and the importance of preserving existing housing as we work to expand affordable housing across Kansas City.

"Kansas City launched a pilot program last fall with Neighborhood Legal Support to identify dangerous homes that could be repaired and preserved as affordable housing, building on the organization’s ongoing legal work to that end." When I launched the pilot, we were focused on saving single family homes on the dangerous buildings list but this property demonstrated the need to expand to Multifamily units. I’m hoping to secure more funds to save all types of housing and place them back into our affordable housing options. This prevents vacant parcels from entering our landbank, and increases our population all while providing affordable, safe places for Kansas Citians to live. More work ahead! After a packed week at City Hall, I spent today out in the community doing what matters most, listening and talking directly with residents. My morning began in Beacon Hill at a resident roundtable where we covered everything from the importance of the Earnings Tax renewal, to infrastructure concerns that my office will work to address, to hearing honest feedback about parking challenges and the upcoming parking minimums ordinance. From there, I joined the Black Community Fund for a community brunch and panel. I shared how my office is working alongside nonprofits and how we can continue to partner to support the work happening on the ground across our city. I closed out the day at the Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council’s monthly potluck, where we had a lively conversation about public safety, clean communities, our response to the homelessness crisis, infrastructure needs, and the upcoming KCMO budget season. I also made sure residents had the information they need about why the Earnings Tax renewal matters for our city’s future.

I asked Public Works to conduct a comprehensive mobility study so that moving through our community is safer, more connected, and works better for everyone, regardless of your mode of transportation. Tonight, I was glad to join residents at the final open house for the 3rd District Mobility Plan. We wanted to ensure this plan prioritizes movement to and from assets within the district like libraries, schools, parks, lakes, the blue river and entertainment nodes. Thank you to everyone who showed up and helped shape what comes next for mobility in the Third District.
