Richard Feynman needed 3 minutes to explain why mathematicians and physicists talk past each other. The clip is old, grainy, and still settles the argument.
The line on screen: mathematicians do not really care what they are talking about. He means it as a compliment. They work with pure structure, no meaning attached.
Physicists can't do that. They have to know what the symbols point at in the world, or the math produces answers about nothing.

MIT filmed the course that teaches programmers how to prove something is true, not just test it until it looks true. Almost nobody watches it.
This is 6.042J, Mathematics for Computer Science, lecture 1. The professor teaching it co-founded Akamai, a company that carried a large share of the world's internet traffic.
Lecture 1 is about proof. Not code, not tools. The difference between a claim that survives every case and a claim that survived the cases you happened to try.
Every AI agent that works in a demo and dies in production is a claim that was tested, never proven. The gap he opens in the first hour is exactly that one.

MIT put its full multivariable calculus course online in 2007 and charged nobody a dollar for it.
Lecture 34 is the final review. A professor in an orange sweater writes Unit 1 on a chalkboard and starts working through the whole semester.
The camera never moves much. No editing, no music, no production budget visible anywhere.
MIT OpenCourseWare launched in 2001 with 50 courses. The plan was to publish materials from every course the university taught.
Faculty were told they would get no royalties and no extra pay. Most agreed anyway.
The catalog passed 2,400 courses. Downloads run past 300,000,000 and the site draws millions of visitors a year from countries with no equivalent institution.
Universities charging 60,000 dollars a year watched a peer give the lectures away and kept charging.
The thing people pay for was never the lecture.

In 1998 Warren Buffett stood in front of a room of Florida business students with no notes and told them why the internet stocks would not work. The bubble popped 18 months later.
He did not name companies. He asked a question instead. If you had to hand over your money for 10 years and could not touch it, which of these businesses would you pick.
Nobody in the room could answer for the internet names.
He walked them through his own test. He told them he could not value Microsoft and would not try. He said the airline industry had lost money in aggregate since Kitty Hawk despite carrying more people every year.
He was 67 and had already been called finished by the press for missing the tech run.
The Nasdaq climbed another 150 percent after that lecture. Then it gave back 78 percent.
The recording sat on the internet for years with almost no views.
He said it out loud to 100 students and the market did it anyway.

A 33-year-old trader made about $100 million on the single worst day in Wall Street history. Paul Tudor Jones tripled his money while the market lost 22% in 1 session.
October 19, 1987. Black Monday. The Dow fell 508 points, the largest single-day percentage drop ever recorded.
Jones had spent months studying charts from 1929. He believed the setup was repeating and positioned short before the break.
A film crew was following him that year. The tape catches him on the phone mid-crash, calm, working the desk while other people lose everything on the same floor.
His fund returned around 200% in 1987. The trade made his name permanently.
The footage comes from "Trader," a documentary shot around him in 1986 and 1987. It aired once on PBS.
Then Jones pulled it. He bought up copies and had it taken out of circulation. The stated reason: he didn't want his methods public.
Bootleg versions survive because a few people taped the broadcast.
The best trading documentary ever filmed was buried by the man in it.

Feynman explained all of science in 1 minute at a chalkboard. Guess, compute the consequences, check against experiment. If it disagrees with the experiment, it's wrong.
The clip is called "Theory, Prediction, Observation." Black-and-white, chalk, no production.
He lays out the whole engine of science as 3 steps. Start with a guess about how nature works. Work out what that guess predicts. Compare the prediction to what actually happens.
Then the line that guts every beautiful theory: it doesn't matter how smart you are or who made the guess. If it disagrees with experiment, it's wrong.
No authority saves it. No elegance saves it. The experiment is the only judge.
He delivered it plainly, almost bored, like he was stating the obvious that most people refuse to live by.

The NSA kept 1 lecture in a vault for 40 years. In 2024 they released it. It's Grace Hopper explaining the future of computing in 1982.

Hopper stands at a podium in Navy uniform, a captain, and talks to a room of NSA staff for 90 minutes across 2 reels.
The title: "Future Possibilities: Data, Hardware, Software, and People."
She compares the computer industry to the early automotive one, all custom parts and no standards, and argues software will become the hard problem, not hardware. She was right by decades.
She invented the first compiler and gave COBOL its shape. She kept a clock that ran backwards on her wall to prove rules can be questioned.
The tapes were too degraded for normal release, so the agency restored them before posting.

A $105 Social Security check made a 65-year-old cry. He answered it with 1,009 rejections.
1955, Corbin, Kentucky. A new interstate reroutes traffic around Harland Sanders's service-station restaurant. His only asset left is a chicken recipe. His mailbox delivers his first Social Security check: $105.
Most men accept the verdict at 65. Sanders loads a pressure cooker and a spice tin into a beat-up car and starts driving.
The pitch: let me cook for your staff. If they like it, pay me a nickel for every chicken you sell using my recipe. He cooked in the kitchen, then slept in the car outside.
The rejections stacked up. Owners didn't understand franchising and didn't trust a man in a white suit. The count reached 1,009 no's before restaurant number 1,010 in Salt Lake City said yes in 1952.
The detail few know: the "Colonel" was honorary, handed to him by Kentucky's governor, no army behind it. And the first KFC opened in Utah, not Kentucky.
Then it moved. By 1963: over 600 franchises across North America, more than any fried chicken brand alive.
1964, age 74: he sold the company for $2,000,000, kept his face on the logo, and drove 200,000 miles a year tasting gravy until nearly 90.
The audit: KFC now runs over 25,000 locations in 145 countries. The man who wept over $105 became the world's 2nd most recognizable face by 1976.
The check said his life was over. He franchised 25,000 stores after cashing it.

John Glenn refused to orbit Earth until 1 woman re-checked the computer's math by hand. The interview where she tells it herself sits on YouTube.
1962: NASA had new IBM machines calculating the Friendship 7 trajectory. Glenn didn't trust them.
His condition before launch: get the girl to run the numbers. If she says they're good, I'm ready to go.

For decades almost nobody outside NASA knew her name. The film "Hidden Figures" broke that in 2016, when she was 98.
