In true understated James Whale style, when I moved to a different radio station, he presented me with a signed copy of his own autobiography with an “autograph” and the message “I’d like to think I taught you everything you know.” Always makes me smile.

I’ve just heard the sad news about James Whale. Despite his on air persona, James couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful when I produced him for a good 6 months on LBC Drive - everyday was entertaining and always surprising.

Dull but life changing news. I’ve now reached the age where varifocal glasses are needed. A revelation!
