DeFi is full of yield. New protocols launch every week, APYs spike, and capital rushes in. But we’ve all seen the pattern: yields compress, liquidity rotates elsewhere, and the opportunity disappears. So the real question isn’t: “What has the highest yield?” It’s: “What actually lasts?” Why do most DeFi strategies fade so quickly? A truly sustainable strategy is about durability, not just temporary performance. It needs to generate consistent returns over time, survive without depending entirely on incentives, and remain viable across different market conditions. Not all yield is created equal. Temporary yield relies heavily on token emissions, which inevitably decline. Sustainable yield comes from real economic activity—trading, lending, and arbitrage. Some opportunities only work in specific market conditions, while the best ones adapt. You also have to factor in the hidden drains: execution costs, rebalancing, slippage, and changing correlations. A strategy might look incredible on paper, but degrade over time once these risks and costs are considered. Building managed DeFi requires a shift in mindset. It means diversification across different DeFi strategies, continuous monitoring, adapting to market changes, and focusing strictly on net, risk-adjusted yield rather than flashy headline APYs. This is where DeFi starts to look more like robust systems, not just fleeting opportunities. This is exactly the philosophy behind DeFi vaults, and specifically Concrete vaults.
