@linusgsebastian @adamcrowder Obviously I know very little about what happened behind the scenes. My only point is that, publicly, it’d be good to maintain respect, especially from the position of power you have. I’ve always respected how you maintain your principles and stood up for the little guy.

@mredig @adamcrowder Everyone has their own version of what happened, and I won't be apologizing for any part I played in it. I'm happy to see our former team members be more successful on their own and I'm excited to see what they build. I'm also happy for the ones who choose employment at LMG.

@adamcrowder @linusgsebastian Yeah, let’s punch down. It comes down to respect in the end. Most of the time I see Linus act with respect. Most employee feedback I’ve seen that has been critical has still been respectful. However, sometimes Linus lashes out where he could either just be kinder or quiet.

@adamcrowder @linusgsebastian I didn’t say he didn’t earn it. He did. It’s impressive. He deserves every penny of his success. But it’s cruel to belittle the negative experiences some former employees had. Hence, getting out of touch with his roots.

What are people doing who have updated to macOS 26 and have many, many menubar apps as I do? Bartender is broken and I have had to just display a few in my menubar and disable many others. Does anyone have a solution?

Asked Apple which app they think Ive copied because I built it from scratch and I thought it was unique enough. This is their response. I think I might just have to call it a day and move on to the next app.

@ashleygjovik You can reduce costs by going local. Look into ollama. ollama.com. If you pick Chinese DeepSeek, it’s guaranteed without any US involvement.

I'm doing the work of like 5 law firms, & I had started using ChatGPT to help me with legal research & drafting. But now an Apple exec is at OpenAI so I need a new tool. What is similar without Apple execs? I'm looking at Gemini, but Apple prob has connections there too?

Another compromise for speed/density with JPEG XL vs FLIF is that FLIF is a single image that can only be decoded serially, but JPEG XL consists of tiles (like 256x256) that can be individually decoded in parallel. This reduced compression density but increases utility, reduces latency.

Sirens not going off in the fault of local jurisdictions. Not NOAA or the NWS. EAS Alerts not going off on cellphones is a fault of the operator, device or carrier— not the NWS or NOAA. The NWS and NOAA did an exceptional job warning the general public, even with restricted resources. I’m not at all for staffing cuts— but I’m not going to stand for blaming them for the deaths either.

Massive tornado outbreak in Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi.. People didn’t get tornado alerts on their phones last, and tornado sirens didn’t go off. Thirty-four folks are dead. Not drawing a direct line between gutting NOAA and these deaths, but it is hard not to.

Let me test those wild, crazy things in the land of the free to show Apple where to open up their ecosystem for App Store apps to allow for new apis for the less nerdy folks.

@Heavyshark1 @krzyzanowskim That allows the safety and simplicity most people desire while also allowing nerdy device owners true freedom. It also technically enables app developers to create without many arbitrary restrictions the App Store imposes.
