Weapon drops run on a category rotation every 30 seconds, appearing on a drone just like contra. You still drop guns when hit, so upgrades for each weapon type will be viable, and there won't be a million guns and power creep to push cycling them.
@ZX_Phantom Hey, not currently, but I'm working on a Contra-like with roguelike elements with some similar-ish controls:
And an update to Giga (nothing major if you've already played it, though, just more tweaks/features).
Something you learn making MMX-likes:
Making the game HD lets you fit more on screen, which also makes content 10x easier to skip.
You can solve this by either nerfing jump height, making rooms more claustrophobic, or "staircasing" level designs (inclining layouts nerf jumps).
The solution I lean towards after GIGA is to take advantage of HD screen real estate by making the game wider, but not taller.
Taller works in a metroidvania where currency can be used to motivate staying in encounters, but in MM it just makes design more complicated.
Controls are a bit more like Mega Man X than Contra, with variable jump height/cancelable dashes, and the plan is for you to always have 1 gun and 1 melee weapon (sword in the video), using melee to parry bullets (kind of like the game Bleed, or Nuclear Throne).
Uploaded a new build for GIGABUSTER containing the new features (control presets, records list (at the hub), more ui info, reworked hook, others etc.)
Unfortunately the Deck version is having issues, so I added a prior "deck" build to the install list for the time being.
Next update will change how the hook/chain weapon works.
It'll show your targeting cone when the button is pressed, then activate the attack when released, which will hopefully make targeting easier.

Saw some posts about how it'd be cool to have a more randomized Contra game for better replayability, so the plan is for it to be a roguelike Contra-like game.
@Hushttone Honestly the biggest flaw was the buster upgrade pause. There were other issues, but they weren't game ruining.
Also the music and grungier tone was awesome, huge step up from X2.
