Rap is dying because it’s always been a YOUNG person’s game. But the old men won’t move out the way for the new ones. They’re 40+ still trying to be the face of the culture. Let the YOUTH lead. That’s how rap stayed fresh for decades.

“𝐀 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐞𝐠𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐜” Above quote is borrowed from Adam Grant, an organization psychologist and author of many books. He makes the point that toxic ego in leaders manifests as a need to silence criticism and to intimidate those that may hold views different from theirs. I watched with disbelief earlier this week when the President told elected members of his own party that they were unfit to be in Parliament. Yes, this was the import of the message by President Boko to members who were in Parliament (the opposition had walked out). In his view, the Constitutional Amendment Bill should be debated by lawyers. “Tota e bile e kabe go tletse di agente ha, go betswa molao, eseng 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒂.” The last word is my addition. Even though the President did not complete the toxic sentence, the message was clear, those in the house were too ignorant to engage on the subject matter. He achieved what he wanted, his MPs were overwhelmed with self doubt. Not a single member of Parliament from the ruling party back bench stood up to debate the much talked about Constitutional Amendment Bill. In effect, the ruling party MPs boycotted the debate through their silence while the opposition boycotted by walking out. The Nwa Metsi Brigade in support of their supreme leader, hope to silence everyone who shares a view that does not align with their script. Some, like the UDC MPs, will succumb and resort to deafening silence. Some of us have long committed ourselves to Speak Truth To Power. Those opposed to a piecemeal amendment of the constitution, now is the time to make your voice heard. #withdrawthebill #Kgololo #askdumelang
